National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This October at Community Medical Group, we invite you to get involved and partner any of the many organizations who look to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we stand united in raising awareness and funds to help support life-saving research and life-changing support.
This month we also remind you to take time and speak with your doctor about your personal risk factors before making a decision about when to start getting mammograms or how often you should get them.
In addition, women should conduct self-examinations about once a month. If something about the size, shape or feel of the breast seems abnormal or you’re having irregular discharge, you should contact your physician. According to the American Cancer Society, breast self-exams are an option for women starting in their 20s.
Unfortunately, breast cancer remains the most common cancer diagnosed in women, with 1 out of 8 women likely to have this diagnosis during their lifetime. We therefore encourage you to do all you can to reduce your overall cancer risk, continue to be vigilant/aware of symptoms, and get routine screenings per your health care provider’s recommendation.
